Normally i would start the letter with "Dear Santa Claus" but in this case i`ll write
:
Dear Dave and Dear Foo Fighters,
my name is Maria, I am 40 years old and i write to you
from Salzburg ( Austria/ Europe). Surely you will get many -
many e-mails from your fans, I hope that my mail awakes so much interest, that it penetrates up to you . The reason why I
write to you is my boyfriend Leander, a huge Foo Fighters fan, but not because he knows all the albums of you , and not because he is a member in a fan club, and
not because he has all merchandise articles from the band,
BUT
because Foo Fighters are a way of life for him, with which he is very compliant and after that he tries to live.
I write in " secret mission " for my friend Leander. Leander and
I are now together almost since 10 years and we have a 2 year old son, named Lennox.
Since I know Leander, music has always been a big part in his life, especially the Foo Fighters. No matter what he does : working, driving a car, brushing his teeth ... Foo Fighters are always present.
I must confess, that I did not know the Foo Fighters
when we met first, but over the years, I learned to love the band, too.
However, it is not about me , but about Leander , why I am w
riting this mail.
Leander is not only a fan of the Foo Fighters music, he researches a lot about the band, reads books and he finds the
ideology of the band, and the ideology of you Dave as a very "livable" one.
Not putting our heads into the sand, look ing for new ways and opportunities, being open for everything, and the belief in himself and his family, out of these he draws his strength , these are values for our little family, which are our "
guidelines of life" in which we always felt supported and encouraged by the Foo`s with their actions and songtexts.
Since the past 3 years Leander tries to launche (as a one -
man show) a family magazine called "Raise Magazine". Raise tries to show that family is more than just a father - mother -
child connection.
We want to achieve that mankind is going to be more open
minded, mankind should not reduce their view down on
the ground, and should not be afraid of breaking down with
prejudice, everyone should dare to live his/her dreams -
in combination with family, because only when you can share your experiences, they will become unforgettable moments
and memories.
The magazine is almost finished , and will be launched in Austria
in winter 2014 (we hope so)
Now you certainly ask yourself, and what does that have
to do with us? Nice if he likes the Foo Fighters - and we have such a big fan. Leander has birthday in June , and I know it would be one of his greatest dreams to meet the Foo Fighters personally.
How and in which form I can `t tell you -whether it' s a phone call, an e-mail, a letter, a Skype interview, a personal interview for the cover story for "Raise Magazine " (which he has already
planned fix), a small concert just for him (I think he would drop dead ), but I fear that even if all our friends and relatives would put money together, we would not be able to book
you for a small garage concert to Salzburg? ; - ) (I love Leander more than I can say, and would do anything for him,
especially because I know that it would make him more than
happy), and hope dies last. While I was pregnant in the 5th
month , we went to Milan and visited there a music festival
(I forgot the name of the festival) the Foo`s were the last
gig that evening.
It was the best concert where we have ever been.
Especially our unborn son was also joining the music.
I t felt so good for all of us, and we were so happy and felt relaxed.
The Foo `s are really a part of our life, 2 years ago our son was born, in the delivery room the Foo`s ran, and while
Times like These was playing (my absolute favorite song) Lennox saw the light of day. When he was a Baby, we often carried him for hours, and with the Foo `s he calms down very quickly.
1 year ago we flew to Thailand on holiday for 6 weeks.
Quite unexpectedly and extremely romantic Leander gave me, in a small bay, a marriage proposal.
He really thought of everything, even the I - Pod with "Times
like These" was running. I was in tears ... and of course I
said yes !
Now everything sounds very romantic and perhaps a little bit naive, but for a better understanding , I would like to say a few words about Leander. He is a very idealistic person , trying to live his dreams. Since 3 years he is working on his main dream, as I mentioned, Raise Magazine ( he is a journalist , editor , graphic designer, photographer ... all in one person),
everyone thinks he is crazy, and no one except his family,
tries to help him. The parents of today need to be waked up!!!!. Our children are the greatest goods on earth that we humans
have, but we learn and show them from the beginning on to destroy the world systematically, we learn them to wear blinkers, and show them not to care about each other ...
all this is wrong and must be changed from the ground up, if we want to live as an overall concept on Planet Earth, and want to leave a "clean" future for our children.
A lot of power for his work and of course for his family he receives from the music.
Foo Fighters support him in his projects, encourage him and give him strength.
to confirm him, in everyt hing he does , that's why I write to you...
to give him power to publish the magazine, that would make the world a little bit better, that's why I write to you ...
Helping to support his dream, that`s why I write to you
Simply because I love him, that's why I write to you
Even I do not know if this mail will ever come into the hands of
Dave Grohl or one of the band members, and even I don`t know if my English is understandable for you, I just hope
that I will eventually have a mail in my inbox with "something
positive".
Merry Christmas and greetings from snowy and cold Salzburg
Maria

Hello Hero/Mr. Grohl,
If there is any way you can respond or even read this, it would probably be the true pinnacle moment in my life (not joking). I am currently 16 years old and have been playing guitar since I was nine years old. All I can find myself thinking about all day is music. During all of my classes, during every aspect of my day, all I can come to think about is music. You have been the man that I have attempted to become the most like. I love writing music, exploring for different sounds, and spend hours on my gear just to get all the sounds I need. However, my parents have been getting on my ass lately about my grades due to how bad they are. The problem is, I'm a sophomore in high school and ever since I started playing music, I don't care what my grades have been like. To give you an idea of how much I play, I have with the lead singer to survivor and the guitarist to Ted nugent (even though I'm not a very big fan of their music). I seriously have thought about dropping out and moving to California in search of a music career. I know you dropped out of high school to but I just don't know. I'm in an emotional hole about the subject and I don't know what to do. Any advice would mean the world to me.
Your wannabe successor,
Peter LaMonaca

Dear Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters,
You guys have touched the lives of many people., including me.My name is Keith Mccoulskey and I am from San Angelo Texas.I am 63 yrs old and I love your music and true compassion in your music.I am writing this letter in reference to my 18 yr old stepson and his 18 month old son Ezrah. Two days ago he was taken to the ER during a birthday party for my other grandson Santiago.. They did a a CT scan and found one large mass and three small ones on his liver. He was airlifted to Cooks Children Hospital in Ft Worth Texas.Yesterday he was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer on his liver and lungs. This really knocked us all to our knees. But we are a family of fighters and we are going to hit this shit full throttle all the way. I'm in no way asking for anything but I've seen in y'all's shows getting people up on stage with the band, and I think that's the greatest thing.Youre an awesome inspiration to many people. You may never see this letter from me, but if someone gets it you I just wanted to see if maybe at one of your shows you can get a small child who is suffering up on stage. An 18 month old boy is way too young to suffer from this horrible disease disease. Its bands like the Foo Fighters who go out there and give it all 100% that inspires people like me.Ezrah is an innocent child who doesn't deserve this. Our hearts are broken right now, but I can think of nothing else in this world is the greatest therapy, and that's the music that brings us all the gifts of memories we can treasure. We all have songs that take us to a place we were and never will be again.I hope this letter reaches you and this little boy touches your heart.I want to thank each and every one of you guys for the therapy you have provided us with through your great music.Thankyou from the bottom of my heart
Keep Rocking.
Your friend,
Keith

Hi,
I know you will receive thousands of messages every day and you probably won't even stop to read these words of mine, but I need to try.
My name is Matilde, I'm just any Italian girl who follows you and admires you. But it's not me I want to talk about, no I'm here to talk about a boy who has suffered too much in life, I love that boy more than anything and that's why I'm trying to make his dream come true. His name is Gabriel. Gabriel's father took his own life a few years ago after leaving home, as if that wasn't enough in his entire life Gabriel suffered bullying and isolation from his peers and in the same period in which he lost the father to whom he was so attached He found himself in the middle of a toxic relationship that destroyed him for more than a year. When I met Gabriel I immediately recognized his strength, together with the last few at school I started making him listen to the songs of my favorite musical group, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and other groups including the Foo Fighters. Gabriel was destroyed at that time but music saved him, he started playing the drums and met his greatest idol, Dave Grhol.
Gabriel has been my boyfriend for almost six months, I really love him more than anything and for this reason I want more than anything to do something that can make him happier than ever, in a few months he will turn 18, more precisely on December 17th of this year.So I was wandering , obviously I am more than willing to pay what is necessary, I was wondering to be able to obtain a dedication video from you for him, it really only takes a few seconds to wish him a happy birthday, I realize how busy you are but please answer me, even just to say no.
In case you are interested and want to help me make his first day of adulthood unforgettable, I hope we can talk to discuss the price.
Please make my boy happy he deserves it so much.
With much esteem and hope, Matilde.

Good morning,

I’m Gemma, I’m writing this letter because I’m a big fan & my brother Mark, has a tribute band called SW foo fighters. They are epic! He even looks like you! I’m optimistic for a reply but I would love to hear from you so I can show him & maybe you could give his tribute to yourselves a look please. I know it would be something he would treasure forever. They have lots of gigs coming up and this would literally be the icing on the cake for them all.

Really hope a reply is given & you know a signed photo! Hey worth an ask! If you could mention the foo fighters SW that would be amazing.

Kind Regards

Gemma Auger.

Dear Dave,
I was just thinking today about the time All My Life came on the radio and saved me in a particular situation and always wanted to tell you about it, this was in June 2015.

I had rambled back and forth across the country and on a particular day went in for an interview did well and was handed keys to a company truck. The sky looked pretty grim. Just as the new boss handed me the keys, the biggest hailstones I ever saw fell from the sky, even cracking the glass on the vehicle. The boss was like “Go! Get out of here!” This was in Elizabeth Colorado and I was staying at the hostel in Denver. I only had a flip phone and no gps vaguely knew the way back. It was flooding so hard at this point that even with wipers on I could hardly see. I got on the interstate and found myself heading toward a vortex, I flung around which happened to be the direction I should’ve been going. The way the water was running across I knew I couldn’t even stop. The wind battered me around and I even spun a few times in circles. I had a moment where I accepted my fate that I might not make it. Your song, which was acclaimed by in an interview to be about cunnilingus came on, All My Life! I was like “This is the song I’m going to die to?” It amped me up and I put the pedal to the metal instead of being afraid. Truly I don’t think I would have made it if that song didn’t come on the radio at that time. I hope this message gets to you. I took a beautiful picture of the storm from the hostel roof top when I got to Denver. It’s on my Facebook page. My name is T.J. Rogers from Fairmont West Virginia. I hope this letter gets to you. I can’t relay to you just how crazy it got and how close to death I was. The Foo Fighters saved a life that day by filling a heart with bravery. And I sincerely just had a tear fall from my eye. It meant a lot to me.

Thank you,
Your friend T.J. Rogers

Dave,

I wrote a song called “Four Twenty Twenty Twenty-Four..” I hope you will do the honor of putting it to music and releasing it before the magic date of April 20. If you do that, I am sure you'll have a hit.

I don't want fame or riches, but I think you'll agree this is fun.

I was inspired to write it based on this story I found:

Have you heard the story about how “420” became slang for using marijuana because it was the police department’s radio code for calling in a marijuana-related violation? You’re not alone. But it’s also wrong.

Other wrong answers are that the term is derived from the number of chemical compounds in marijuana, the Grateful Dead’s preferred hotel room during tours, or the death date of Janis Joplin, Bob Marley or Jimi Hendrix. Actually it referred to the time of day that a small group of San Rafael High School teenagers would congregate on campus next to a statue of chemist Louis Pasteur to smoke together. The year was 1971, and the five students would simply tell each other “420” to communicate that they’d be meeting up to smoke marijuana that day. San Rafael High School is located in California’s Marin County, where the Grateful Dead band got its start. Dave Reddix, from the original group of San Rafael students, became a roadie for Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh and is thought to be responsible for spreading the term to Deadheads. Some Deadheads put out a flyer inviting people to meet “at 4:20 on 4/20 for 420-ing” at a particular spot in Marin County. The flyer, however, contained an incorrect piece of information. It said that the use of the term 420 “started as the police code for Marijuana Smoking in Progress.” It’s unclear whether the organizers were misinformed or simply wanted to create a better backstory.

So I wrote this song...

“Four Twenty Twenty Twenty-Four”

(Verse)
Back in ‘71, the tale begins,
High school friends, sharing grins,
By Pasteur's statue, they'd convene,
At four twenty, on the scene.

Whisper "four-twenty," just to say,
Let's gather 'round and blaze away,
And from those days, a legend grew,
A code for pot-heads old and new.

A group of friends just having fun,
Livin’ life, on the run
Same time, they’d always meet,
To share a joint, and find their beat.

(Verse 2)

Four-two-oh, the term would spread,
By Deadheads grooving to Grateful Dead,
But myths arose, in the haze,
Truth obscured, in the craze.

Heard silly stories, yes indeed
‘Bout a code for cops or chemistry,
No it’s just us, we’re happy
friends sharing weed in harmony!

(Bridge)
So let's light up in memory,
To those who lived and loved so free,
A nod to friendship, and to bliss,
What we don’t forget, we reminisce.

(Refrain)
Four-two-oh, two-oh-two-four!
(Response) Palindrome!
Meet twenty minutes after 4!

Four-two-oh, two-oh-two-four!
(Response) Palindrome!
April twenty ‘24!

Four Twenty, Twenty Twenty-Four,
Done with school, meet back there;
Four Twenty, Twenty Twenty-Four
It's always 4:20 somewhere!

(Verse)
Not a police code, nor chemical count,
Just friends gathering to light a blunt,
Unity, in a cloud of smoke,
The way is clear, for thems that’s woke.

Hendrix, Joplin and Marley
We celebrate - tho it’s not their deathday;
A moment in time, forever more,
A toast to tokers from stoner lore!

So raise a joint, to those before,
Livin’ the high life forevermore;
Four twenty '24,
Don’t lick your lips,
no second-hand kiss!

(Refrain)
Four-two-oh, two-oh-two-four!
(Response) Palindrome
Meet twenty minutes after 4!

Four-two-oh, two-oh-two-four!
(Response) Palindrome
April twenty ‘24!

Four Twenty Twenty Twenty-Four,
We may be old, still back for more,
Four Twenty Twenty Twenty-Four
It's always 4:20 somewhere!

(Outro)
So raise your joint, or your bowl
To liberty, it’s beautiful!
With every toke, we'll declare,
It's always 4:20 somewhere!

Four Twenty, Twenty Twenty-Four,
Might be late but we’ll be there
Four Twenty, Twenty Twenty-Four,
It's always 4:20 somewhere!
