Dear Billie,
I first heard of Green Day in the 7th grade from one of my best friends, Hayden Bull (shit) when I lived in Florida nearly six years ago. The confidence I found in punk culture has stuck with me ever since. I am now 17 and finishing high school in front of a computer screen every day and see the same 30-some kid’s everyday who are all fucking bricks in the wall and like it that way. I now reside in gloomy Michigan. I began being picked on (effectively) about a week ago because I got really quite due to stuff happening at home. They “meow” at me because I went to a party and got a little wild. Since I live in a really fucking small town and there is not much they don’t view as taboo around here. I read your quotes online because I only get country songs on my computer except for two songs by yal. I don’t care tht play them over and over blairing through my head phones and people stare. However, it’s what gets me through the day. I laughed so hard at your quotes I remembered not to care about these preppy fuckers and focus on what I want for my life…graphic design or photography : p I would love to meet you one day Billie your music has ironically kept me from jumping off the edge screaming FUCK IT! I know you probably hear this a lot but you are my idol. I can't even put into words what your music has done for me. I'm currently going into sophmore year at High School and I can't believe I mad eit through freshman year. I went through this really bad relationship thing where I was forced into doing some things I didn't want to do. When I finally broke up with the guy he wouldn't leave me alone. Your music was the only thing that kept me here. There were days when I contemplated suicide rather than seeing him in the morning but when I heard you sing, he didn't matter. One day I was looking up quotes from you for a school project and I found the one about if a guy is mistreating you. That quote made me realize that he was wrong, not me. That was the first step to me moving on. Although I still struggle with all of that I now know it's not important and I know that because of you. Billie, you really are my idol and your music saved my life. I don't know if you'll ever read this but I just want to thank you. You, Tre, Mike, and Jason were all there for me when no one else was. I wanted to quit but knew I couldn't. Headphones in and Green Day blasting I faced life day by day and it got better. I made it. I'm still fighting. You inspire me everyday and I want you to know that. I was at your first concert put of rehab and I was so proud of you. That moment made me realize that we were in it together. Even though you don't know me I feel so connected with you and I almost cried being in the same building as you. The ticket is on my wall and is something I treasure, it reminds me of the day I saw my heroes. I plan on seeing you guys every chance I get because that was the greatest day of my life. Truly. You are my hero.

I'm Idiot since last year thanks to my friend she put on Boulevard of Broken of Broken Dreams and as soon as I heard I was enchanted. Hey Billie Joe, I've never written one of these before. Yesterday as I read your Rolling Stone interview, I reflected on the years of Green Day. I've watched you evolve over the years from writing songs about youknowwhating (kids reading this, I guess) all night in your room on Ashby ave to making socio-political F-U statements. I feel like I've grown up with you guys by my side. You're the reason why at 13 I picked up a guitar, and why at 24 I'm recording my band's first EP in the very same room you recorded Dookie, and why it nearly brought me to tears. Since I was a kid, I've always wanted to be just like you, but as I've grown up, you've really taught me how to be my own self. You taught me it was okay to be lost, different... a f-kin outcast. You've gotten me through rough times, and you're really one of my heroes man. I know you're going through some heavy shit right now, and now it's our turn (the fans) to be here for you. We all love you man. If I ever make it to a big enough stage, maybe one day I'll get to tell you that in person. I'm from Berkeley afterall, and prolly drive right by your old place on Ashby all the time.
