Dear Mark,
I'm a huge fan of yours and find you really inspiring. I saw your concert when you came to Berkeley and have been writing music ever since. I've been pretty depressed lately because my dad has stage 4 brain cancer and it's been bad lately. I've lost a few close friends because most of the time I just want to bee by myself. When I am by myself, I listen to your music and it really helps me stay positive and realize that even though things seem bad, it'll get better someday. So thank you for inspiring me to write music, and for helping me keep going. I really appreciate it. If you read this, please email me at luckyduckyleyla@gmail.com
Thanks for everything,
Leyla
Hi Mark,
My name is Jose Gonzalez, i'm from Merida, Yucatan. I watch all the concerts you guys have, but there is one that I want to see come true, one here in Merida. I really wish I could see you guys live, playing Houdini, Helena Beat, Broken Jaw, I Would Do Anything For You... God, I just hope that day comes. People here in Merida would know what the real music is, and that is FOSTER THE PEOPLE! Merida is waiting for you! -JOSE.

Hello Mark, and Gang,
After listening to "Pumped Up Kicks" on Youtube and watching the video, I was directed to view a group interview where the band's new song "Ruby" was mentioned and the group briefly discussed what the song was about, which greatly intrigued my interest.
I have been a single mom for over 16 years who has also survived working in the restaurant business my whole life, which struck me a bit odd because of the backgrounds mentioned in this particular video. Not to mention, my name is Rosie and it was like the band had actually wrote the song about me, my life, and my two sons. who were only 1 and 4 when my ex -husband had an affair and left a week before Christmas! Not good times...
Till this day my ex try's to bolster about what a good dad he is or has been, which in all truths, he is a DEADBEAT DAD! He has never consistently assisted financially with raising our two sons all these years nor has he with his other daughter he had with his ex-wife. What a tangled web we weave!
He is currently $55,000.00 thousand in the rears and our two sons have suffered dearly. My family (Me and my two sons) are in a very bad, dark place now because of everything that has transpired through the years and has recently occurred.
For 16 years my ex has tormented, bullied, and verbally abused me, like he still owns me even though he is remarried. I never, ever go near him, but he cannot resist causing pain to me, no matter the cost. Now my two sons do the same to me through disrespect, hatred, and total misbehavior and my ex laughs. My ex has purposely and revengefully damaged the family I worked so hard to enjoy and nurture all this time to the point where me and my youngest are now estranged and going through the court systems. Recently, I had to painfully file two restraining orders on both my youngest son and my ex, which our first court date is in eight days. I am scared to death!
It's a long, long heart breaking story that does not seem to end. It just goes on and on and on.... The only positives I have in my life are my two little homeless dogs I found after losing my nine year old Black Lab to lymphoma cancer last year. Thankfully, my elderly father and my mom who travels a lot, they were divorced too years ago.
And also my college, I enrolled into the online college three years ago and have been surprisingly very successful. at achieving my goals. I have accomplished earning my associate's in business and am currently in the bachelor's program earning straight As! :) I can't believe it because I have not been in any type of school since 1981 and I am doing it!
Now I really told my age...Lol
I originally began college to set a good example for my sons in hopes that they would follow, but the oldest did and the youngest is heading for trouble, which is such a shame and breaks my heart!
He is a wonderful bass player and had played in the pit crew for the play "FAME" one time. He has a huge heart that has been so badly broken from this terrible, terrible divorce, but my ex just can't see it and doesn't even try to care!
I am trying to get my son help through the courts since he has not turned 18 yet and I want to see him have a greater life than the path he has chosen so young! Even though, I too know that this misbehavior is not all his fault, it's the multitude of obstacles we had to struggle through as a family that were just too overwhelming to bare. Then, things became worse after hurting my back two years ago, but I am not dead yet! :) I just keep praying, wishing, and hoping this too shall pass!
Well, I just wanted to say that "Ruby" made me cry and really hit home.
I just felt the need to tell all of you this. It was comforting to know that some people really do know what it feels like, the ongoing hardships, and the pain that the whole family deals with forever after.
Thank you!
Best Wishes,
Rosie
Hi Mark,
My name is Myiah (pronounced like my-uh) im 14 and im from California. I'm guessing you're probably really busy so I'll keep this short. Your lyrics inspire and change the lives of so many people (including me) and I can't stress enough what a gift to the world that is. What you sing is real and I have a lot of respect for you because of that. I look forward to your new album in 2013! I Hope I get to meet you someday.
P.S. Helena Beat is my favorite song!

Dear Mark,
You and your music have completely changed my life! I went to your concert at the Gibson Amphitheater in L.A. I was the one with the sign that said "You rock Mark!" Remember when you didn't get the lyrics of Helena Beat right? I was the only one in the audience that noticed! Please come to New Mexico! My name is Sydney and im 11. I know you probably wont get this letter because you get thousands, but that's OK. I know that you want to inspire kids to play music when there still young, and you have inspired me for sure. Ive been planning, practicing, practicing, planning, to sing Houdini at my school for the Talent Show. That's my favorite song and it always will be! Love you!
-Sydney
